JWC Info
Thanks for checking out JWC Drum Lessons. Teaching drums to people is my passion, and I hope to bring you on board to have some fun and do some great learning together.
This page aims to not only let you know about the JWC lesson program, but to act as a guide for beginner drummers/new students to understand what they need to master the drum set.

About Jam With Cam
Choosing a private instructor can be a big decision. Here is my commitment to my students: To empower students by helping them achieve new heights, to ignite their passion and curiosity, and to foster character traits like patience, resilience, empathy, and courage.

How do we do that? By playing music that we enjoy and learning how to analyze all of the things going on while playing this complex instrument. That is the beauty of a great teacher: the blending of personal care and the wherewithal to provide the right challenge that gets the student excited. That is the teacher I aim to be for each of my students.

Use the three tabs below to learn about each of the steps.
Before The Lesson
My studio is located inside Music Go Round Fort Collins. Look for the sign that says "Lessons," and you will find my logo as well as "Drum Lessons" on my door. Please feel free to ask the staff there any questions you may have. While they may not know the ins and outs of the JWC program, they are very knowledgeable about gear and learning music.
Lesson transitions typically begin on the hour or half-hour. If I am with another student, I will come find you inside the store when your lesson begins. Make sure you have your sticks, look over any notes you may have taken, and feel free to tap on the cymbals they have at the store.
During The Lesson
Most sessions will have two areas of focus prepared: one part skills development (rudiments, ear training, technique, etc.) and one part application (musical exercises and songs). I like to make sure my students get a good balance of skills development and fun.
To ensure our lessons are both practical and engaging, most exercises are paired with musical backing tracks, so you are always learning in a real-world musical context. I will always aim to have a planned experience for you that is both appropriate for your skill level and engaging.
That being said, my priority is your curiosity. If there is something you want to explore or have questions about, I am always happy to work on that first. This is especially common for more experienced drummers.
After The Lesson
I always do my best to ensure my students know what to practice and how it relates to our long-term goals before the lesson ends. I will typically use the last few minutes of our session to go over this with you.

Important Tip: For younger students, I find that the more active a role parents play in their student's development, the better. Parents are encouraged to be ready to listen in and discuss during these final few minutes to understand the student's objectives and how we will reach them.
As a personal note, I like my teaching to be as adaptive as possible and be flexible with goal setting. As different students have different learning capabilities, I want my students to feel challenged with the right amount of difficulty.
